About Ba Be National Park

Ba Be National Park is located in 5 communes of Khang Ninh, Quang Khe, Cao Thuong, Cao Tri and Nam Mau, Ba Be district, Bac Kan. It’s about 50km from Bac Kan city in the Northwest direction and 250km from Hanoi capital to the North. 

If traveling from Hanoi, the bus is the most convenient way to get to Ba Be. You can refer to Hanoi - Cho Ra, Bac Kan trips at My Dinh wharf (ticket price from 120k -150k). In addition, if you travel by motorbike or private car, you can move in the direction of Highway 3, through Thai Nguyen province to Bac Kan, then ask for directions to Ba Be Lake tourist area.

Located in the center and considered as a green gem of Ba Be National Park, Ba Be Lake has special geological and hydrological tectonic properties. This is also the only natural lake in the mountains in Vietnam which although located in the limestone mountains, it is not dehydrated. This is also the unique and different thing of Ba Be Lake.

Traveling to Ba Be Bac Kan Lake, you will have the opportunity to sit on a canoe, walk around the blue lake. This is a beauty of local culture that you should not miss out on.

2. Hua Ma Cave


Hua Ma Cave is a scenic spot in the Ba Be National Park area. The cave is by the Leng river and belongs to Pac Ngoi village, Quang Khe commune, Ba Be district, Bac Kan province. Hua Ma Cave is located in the middle of Co Lon mountain in the middle of Lèo Pèn (Forest Ma) with green and dense trees. This place is deeply embedded in the mountain in the direction of East - South all year round and is called Leo Pen cave by indigenous people.

According to local residents' legends, Ma Forest in the past was the place where demons dwell, then an imperial general came to patrol here and heard the howls of the unjust souls of the people who were together with the court. In order to fight against the enemy, they were not able to escape. The mandarins immediately camped next to the banks of Leng river and slaughtered their horses and made offerings to heaven and earth. After the ceremony, the howls disappeared, and over the years, very magnificent stalactites emerged. Since then, people call the cave painting "Len Pen" as Hua Ma cave or in the local language called Dau Ngua cave.

Co Don mountain foot is located at an altitude of 350 m above sea level. The road from the foot of the mountain to the mouth of the cave has been built into steps, visitors have to climb 300 meters to reach Hua Ma Cave, the mouth of the cave is 3 meters wide and 5 meters high. Hua Ma cave has a very wide cave of about 1ha, length to more than 700m, the ceiling is wide and high to 40-50m, containing many magnificent walls and stalactites. Hua Ma Cave was only surveyed for tourism in 2003-2004 and is still underdeveloped in terms of tourism services and tourist numbers.

Another unique tourist destination you cannot miss is Dong Puong - a small cave about 5 km from Cho Ra town. The cave is next to the Nang river, which is floating all year round. Occasionally, a section of a river falls into a ravine, forming small hollow caves with geysers flowing with fruit - as unique as the Doi pagoda relic in Soc Trang.

 

4. Dau Dang waterfall

Dau Dang Waterfall is a waterfall located on the gentle Nang River in the complex of Ba Be National Park. Located between two large rocky mountains and blocked by large and small rocks, the water in the waterfall falls from a height of up to 500m straight down the river, forming a beautiful white dust rain.

In particular, below the waterfall is the home of an extremely rare fish called Fried Fish. This fish has a large, healthy shape, some even weigh more than 10 kg.

 

5. Ao Tien

Located in the corner of the "ba lake" of Ba Be Lake, Ao Tien is a lovely small lake in the middle of a limestone basin isolated from the main lake. You can reach the pond by just walking a little from the lake. The pond is nourished by groundwater seeping through the surrounding rock, so it has the same water level as Ba Be Lake.

Ao Tien is home to a number of local fish and other aquatic animals. Local fishermen occasionally come here to fish despite this is a place for tranquility and seclusion rather than to hope for a big catch. Like Ba Be's distinctive features, Ao Tien evokes local legend. The name "Ao Tien" refers to a story about a hunter who was fascinated by the beauty of fairies bathing in a pond while passing by.

 

6. Ba Goa Island


Ba Goa Island (Po Jia Mai in local language) is a lovely little island located in the middle of Lake 1 (Pé Lèng) of Ba Be lake. The island is made up of large and small rocks, stacked on top of each other. The trees on the island are green all year round and the roots fall to embrace the rocks.

Legend said that the main island is the residence of the mother and daughter of kind widows in the past, using rice husks taken from Mrs. Tien's paddy to split into two canoe boats to help the people heal in the great flood of water. into Ba Be Lake.

7. An Ma Temple


An Ma Temple is located on An Ma island in the middle of Ba Be lake. This is an old temple reconstructed in 2007. An Ma temple worships Buddhist Temple, Mau Thuong Ngan, Lord Son Trang, Duc Thanh Tran….

Legend has it that the temple is the place of worshiping the Mac gods during the feudal war in Le Mac's period. After losing the battle, they ran to Puong cave and died there. To commemorate the gods, the people here built the temple of the Mac family, but feared revenge by the Le dynasty's mandarins, they changed the name to the Ma family temple. An Ma in the Tay ethnic language means "a beautiful quiet tomb" the resting place of the martyrs of the Mac family.

An Ma Temple is a place of religious activities for local people and visitors and is also a place to celebrate the Ba Be Spring Festival held on January 10. An Ma Temple Festival is held on February 6 of the lunar calendar every year


8. Pac Ngoi Village

Pac Ngoi cultural tourism village, Nam Mau commune, Ba Be district is a Tay ethnic village on stilts on the bank of Leng river close to Ba Be lake. The village has more than 80 households with nearly 400 people. Especially the people in the village are all Tay people.

Pac Ngoi village still has a number of old stilt houses, tiled with yin and yang, unique architectural design. People in the village for many generations have lived by cultivating rice, maize in alluvial areas along the river and fishing and shrimp on Ba Be lake. Currently, the majority of households in the village are engaged in tourist service business activities.
