O Quy Hồ Pass – From Sapa to Tam Đường
When traveling in northern Vietnam, few roads inspire as much awe as the O Quy Hồ Pass. Stretching nearly 50 km and reaching altitudes of over 2,000 meters, it connects Sapa (Lào Cai) with Tam Đường (Lai Châu), cutting across the Hoàng Liên Sơn mountain range.
Nicknamed the “King of the Northern Passes”, O Quy Hồ is famous for its breathtaking rice terraces, mist-covered peaks, and endless bends that seem to touch the clouds. From its high viewpoints, travelers can see the winding valleys below, terraced fields hugging the slopes, and the grandeur of Fansipan, the Roof of Indochina, rising in the distance.
The pass is not just about scenery—it is also a journey of connection. Along the way, ethnic minority villages dot the mountainsides, their life and traditions shaped by the land.
✨ In Explore Real Asia’s August itinerary, O Quy Hồ is the highlight of the route from Sapa into Tam Đường, Lai Châu. Whether by car or motorbike, every curve on this road is an adventure into the heart of the Northwest.
